About

The Niagara Peninsula Conservation Authority (NPCA) and the former Niagara Chapter of Trout Unlimited Canada worked together for many years to protect and restore the last remaining cold-water streams in the Niagara Peninsula watershed. Built on shared expertise in watershed science, habitat restoration, and community stewardship, this collaboration played a key role in improving stream health and supporting native species in the Twelve Mile Creek. Bring Back the Brookies is one example of this collaboration in action, focusing on the restoration of native Brook Trout habitat within the Upper Twelve Mile Creek watershed.

After the Niagara Chapter ceased operations, NPCA is proud to carry forward this important program and continue its legacy of habitat restoration and community engagement. Through public education, the program helps bring awareness to and protect this sensitive ecosystem while engaging the community in long-term watershed stewardship.

Supplementing outdoor experiences and volunteer opportunities, this online resource, organized in 5 modules, provides a series of videos and materials to support case studies in the Geography or Science and Technology subjects of Ontario’s Grade 7-9 Curriculum.

In addition, for those interested in getting outdoors to explore or monitor the watershed, please visit the OUTDOOR ACTIVITIES page.

Let’s learn in nature.
